Excursion from Vilnius: Trakai, Užutrakis, Kernavė

Pick up from your hotel in Vilnius and drive to Trakai (28 km) – the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Visiting the 15th century Insular Trakai Castle housing an exhibition on prehistoric findings and the 17-18th century applied art, the way of life of the Lithuanian Grand Dukes. Excursion in Trakai and acknowledge of karaims – a people speaking the Turkic language, who have lived there since the 14th century and have preserved their traditions. The kenesa – a Karaime sanctuary – and houses of Karaimes have survived in Trakai – see them!

Free time for lunch, when you must taste karaims popular traditional dish – kybyn (a small pasty stuffed with minced meat). Also, you could take a boat trip which gives a chance to enjoy blue water and the picturesque nature surroundings!

Further drive to Užutrakis Manor Estate. The estate consists of a palace, a park and auxiliary buildings. Palace has a terrace from which you can admire wonderful views to the Trakai Island Castle and Galvė lake. Hear the history and legends of this place and take a walk in this picturesque place.

Later – trip to Kernavė. It is an outstanding example of historical heritage in Lithuania. Kernavė represents an exceptional testimony to some 10 millennia of human settlements in this region. The town was included into UNESCO World Heritage list, as a unique and remarkable place symbolizing disappeared culture and civilization from the late Palaeolithic Period to the Middle Ages. You will visit 5 mounds complex and enjoy a breath taking view and surroundings. Fresh air, sunshine and a picturesque view – take a seat and enjoy Lithuania’s nature!

Trip back to Vilnius.
